One of the biggest things holding women back from meeting their health and fitness goals is mindset. While I truly believe in the power of excellent programming and intentional nutritional strategies, I also know that without the proper mindset you simply won’t see results.
I am not talking about a woo-woo type of manifesting mindset, but instead the ability to think about your current state, your progress and your ability to make a change. The women who have come through my FASTer Way to Fat Loss program and have seen real results, have all possessed a mindset that is open to and committed to change.
Here are some key characteristics of that type of mindset:
Maintain a positive outlook.
We all have hard things going on in our lives. There are difficult people everywhere, and every goal we set comes with its own obstacles. If you dwell on the hard things, the things you lack, or the size of your obstacles, you simply will not see change. However, if you look for the silver lining in every situation, and focus on your progress, blessings and strengths, you will be far more likely to move towards your goals. This is particularly important when it comes to health and fitness, as it is likely you will have days where you feel like you’ve failed. On those days, it is crucial to think about how far you’ve come and maintain a mindset of hope and possibility as opposed to hanging your head in defeat.
Focus on progress not the end goal.
I totally believe in setting real, attainable, and challenging goals. However, some of our health and fitness goals will take a long time to reach while others will be less quantifiable and more subjective. In order to successfully reach your goals, you need to keep the end in mind, but be focused on the power of your progress. If your goal is to lose 60 pounds, please do not feel defeated if you lose 35 through my FASTer Way program! 35 pounds is a huge, huge thing…not to mention I am sure there will be countless other non-scale victories associated with that weight loss. While there may still be a ways to go, don’t sell that incredible progress short: celebrate it! A mindset that celebrates progress will continue to strive for progress!
Be committed and work hard.
Getting healthy and fit is hard. I am not going to lie and sell you on an easy, quick fix. There are no magic pills or quick fixes. However, living a healthy lifestyle is completely possible with solid nutritional strategies, effective workouts and lots of support. I can give you all three of those things through my FASTer Way program. However, what I cannot give you is the commitment it takes to follow through. Only you can bring that. To truly succeed at your health and fitness goals (and any other goal for that matter), you must decide you will commit to follow through and complete what you started with focus and hard work…not perfection!
Fight through the fear of doing hard things.
Fear can truly paralyze you from moving forward. Many women look at my program and think it sounds too hard, so they never even try. Here’s the thing though, hundreds of women have gone through my FASTer Way program successfully. There is nothing special about those women. Their lives aren’t easier, their willpower isn’t stronger. However, they didn’t look at something hard and think, “oh…I can’t do that, it’s too hard.” They tried one day at a time, one step at a time. Focusing on what’s possible instead of how hard something might be is what sets the successful apart.
Remain patient.
Good things take time. Things worth having don’t happen overnight. Lifestyle change takes months and months of work to truly set in. Be patient. Results will come after just a week or two, but hang in there. The real results that last will take a bit of time. A mindset that is focused on overnight success is going to be disappointed and disillusioned. A mindset focused on slow progress over time will see incredible results.
The best fitness and nutrition program in the world is only as good as its implementation. If your mindset is focused on the negative, on the unchangeable, on quick fixes and on your limitations, you won’t see results and likely won’t even start. Instead, remind yourself daily of the progress you’ve made and the opportunities ahead. Surround yourself with others working toward a similar goal. Write down your goals AND your progress. Celebrate your small success and commit to doing hard things that move you forward every day. In time, your results will be unbelievable!
