What foods should you eat while breastfeeding? Do you need to count calories? I recently posted about this topic (read the blog post here), but wanted to share some specific meals we have been eating recently.
We try to eat fairly clean at home, but frankly, I am the worst cook on this side of the Mississippi. We generally grill meat and steam vegetables. Nothing fancy. But simple tends to be more healthy for us too. Since I am breastfeeding Baby Cole, I need to be sure to get enough calories, nutrients, and drink plenty of water. I do not count calories, but I do eat clean, calorie-dense foods, until I am satisfied. We eat a lot of lean protein (chicken, fish, beef), veggies, fruit, and whole grains.
Here is a breakdown of a few of our meals this week, and my favorite new recipe at the end! Disclaimer — the hubs made all of these meals besides the Chipotle. I can’t take any credit at all. But don’t worry, I make up for my poor cooking skills in other ways.
- Chipotle. Yum!!! I usually get a burrito bowl with brown rice, black beans, salsa, lots of lettuce, a bit of cheese, and guac on the side. I always eat half of the portion and save half for a meal the following day. Gotta love left-overs.
- Honey BBQ chicken and couscous. It might look boring, but it tasted great and filled me up with good nutrient-dense foods. Also, is Cole great at planking or what? He has the strongest little core!
- Flounder, broccoli, and a yellow potato. Again — simple but delicious.
Ok, and here is my absolute favorite new chicken dish (with recipe included from Foodies TV)! It’s chicken … wrapped and bacon. How could you possibly go wrong?!
Sweet & Spicy Bacon Chicken

I also wanted to post a quick follow up to my recent Fitfluential and Koss fit buds campaign partnership. I am a huge fan of the Koss headphones that I received before Christmas, and I know that at least a few of my IG and FB friends have purchased some as well. I have small ears, and the ear cushions come in several different sizes for the perfect fit. Every girl I know who has purchased and tried the headphones has been very happy too with both fit and sound quality! Walgreens is now selling the headphones for $19.99 (all colors and models).
Love my fitbuds! They haven’t fallen off even when running!
