Today I participated in a wellness coaching session with Kelly McNelis from New Leaf Wellness. I have to be honest, when I first considered reviewing and giving away a free one hour coaching session, I couldn’t think of a good topic to discuss during my own session that I would review. On her wellness coaching site, Kelly says the following about her coaching:
“As a wellness coach, I help moms achieve balance in their lives. Often, that includes working toward goals in exercise, healthy eating, and time management. Having a baby can spur big life changes too, like finding a new career. You pick what you want to work toward, and I’ll help get you there.”
This past week, a few events that happened at work caused me to do a bit of thinking about my job situation after I deliver Baby Tress #2. I am currently working a full-time web marketing job for a university, working part-time (nearly full-time) for my fitness business, raising a 1-year-old, trying to keep the house clean, etc. I absolutely love working and will never stop working at least part-time, but I have been considering scaling back.
This topic of discussion proved to be the PERFECT fit for our coaching session today. Kelly is a fellow FitFluential ambassador, and I met her via Facebook a few months ago. I was aware that she had a coaching business, but was not exactly sure how it worked. Let me tell you, the 45 minute conversation we had was one of the most productive and encouraging conversations I’ve ever been involved in. It left me craving more coaching and wanting to set up some consults for the future! I consider myself someone who “has it together.” In fact, I even questioned whether coaching could benefit me. But, I had a huge misconception about the process and now I think everyone should have a life coach!
Kelly asked me a lot of great questions throughout our conversation. Any time I have considered scaling back my jobs, I have focused on what I would lose by scaling back (money, a sense of purpose, fulfillment, etc). Previously, I have only considered my fears. However, without me even realizing it, Kelly asked me to verbalize what I would gain by scaling back. I was listing off huge benefits that I would experience if my schedule was less busy (more time with Emma, more flexibility to go on vacation, the ability to pour more time into my fitness business and realize some amazing potential there, more quality time at church with fellow moms, the opportunity to cook for my family, etc). Kelly made me realize that there are far more exciting possibilities than negative realities if I scale back with work.
I left my coaching session with Kelly feeling confident, excited about the future, clear on my decision-making, and with some tangible goals for how to accomplish my idea situation for the future after Baby Tress #2 is born.
this might be interesting 🙂
Recently i came across your own airctle and also have already been reading together. I wish to convey my appreciation of the writing ability as well as capability to help to make readers read from the beginning towards the end. I would like to study newer airctles and to share my personal thoughts with you.
That’s way the bestest answer so far!
and ‘liked’ on facebook-
I think the biggest thing I would gain is exactly what Amanda noticed in her session – an ‘outside’ view of my situation without all of my pre-conceived concerns and fears attached.

Hmm, I think I would gain a LOT from a coaching session with Kelly! Keeping my life organized, staying on track with eating healthy, etc. Sometimes just being able to talk to someone else about what’s going on in your life is all you need. 🙂

I’m thinking about a job transition and would love help weighing the pros/cons of my options, including independent contracting, which would be a huge lifestyle change for my and my 13 month-old!

Proud of you, Kelly! Excited for your New Leaf Wellness ventures!
I am due with baby #2 in six weeks, so I could gain some perspective on just how I am going to coordinate life with two kids.
That’s not just the best answer. It’s the bestest answer!
I thought I already liked New Leaf Wellness on FB, but I do now!
Kelly, I think you offer such a great service! Since becoming a mom I kind of feel like I’ve lost my identity. I’d like help finding direction to help me find enjoyment in those “mom” moments and make time for some “me” moments too.
Yay for you guys jen!! Congrats!! You are a grt mom and I am happy for you both. Lil scarlett just keeps geinttg more and more adorable. Tc, and God Bless!!
I’ve been following Kelly, she has great tips in all areas of mom hood or just juggling career and life! I love her crockpot recipe book, I recommend it to all my busy PT clients!!
I am leaving my comment on “why” I need coaching! Finally I was cleared to exercise this pregnancy (25 weeks), but I haven’t done it in so long that I am overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin (especially since it’s really cold outside). I am terrified of gaining the weight that I did with my son’s pregnancy (I refuse to post the amount I gained, but it wasn’t pretty). And I am trying to eat healthy on a strict budget (even though I am craving sugars)! I could also use some tips on quick meals for our family since my due date is rapidly approaching! Kelly, I could use you in almost ALL aspects of my life (exercise, diet, budgeting, balancing a family with 2 children, etc)!!!!!!

Sounds amazing! I have been stalking Kelly’s New Leaf blog! I love all of her ideas and suggestions. I am new to being a stay at home to my one year old and almost 3 year old. I am looking for some suggestions and pointers toward time management, healthy habits and activities to do with my little ones! Way to go, Kelly!
When I first got pregnant I was STARVING I work about 10 miuntes from home and there were days when I would leave work and I didn’t think I’d be able to make it home before eating something because I was so hungry. I wanted Taco Bell around the clock for some reason. I only ended up gaining 16lbs total though even though I stayed hungry most of my pregnancy so I’m not sure where it went lolCongrats on all of your upcoming changes!!
