Jillian Michaels’ View of Pregnancy

Last week I wrote a post about fit mom of two, Jillian Michaels. In the article, I mentioned that Women’s Health Magazine  quoted Jillian as saying that she would never choose to get pregnant because she, “can’t handle doing that to [her] body.”

Initially I, among other fit moms and trainers, was discouraged that Jillian would say such a thing and resolve never to get pregnant since she “can’t handle doing that to [her] body.” If anyone could bounce back after pregnancy, get a 6 pack after pregnancy, exercise throughout pregancy, prevent water retention during pregnancy, etc — it’s Jillian!

However, recently, it has come to my attention that she has a different view on pregnancy than media originally painted after the Women’s Health article was published. First, let me be clear — Jillian did say “I can’t handle doing that to my body.” However, she did not say — “Pregnancy will ruin my body.”

Jillian suffers from PCOS and endometriosis, which she says is one of the reasons she would not get pregnant. Jillian claims she has planned to adopt and does not believe in using synthetic hormones to get pregnant (something that would be necessary to overcome the fertility challenges accompanied with PCOS and endometriosis).

After doing more detailed research, I am more encouraged with Jillian’s response to pregnancy and pregnant women. Read this blog article where she remarks that preganacy does NOT ruin your body.

Read an article in PEOPLE about Jillian’s adoption process and watch a video about life with the new little ones.

I appreciate Jillian’s workout philosophies, and now I can begin to appreciate her view on pregnancy as well. What are your thoughts?
